Passage Essay Example for Free

Section Essay Entry: â€Å"As I have attempted to give you how Europeans become Americans; it may not be unpleasant to show you similarly how the different Christian orders presented, wear out, and how strict lack of concern gets common. At the point when any significant number of a specific organization happens to stay coterminous to one another, they quickly erect a sanctuary, and there revere the Divinity pleasingly to their own curious thoughts. No one upsets them. On the off chance that any new organization jumps up in Europe it might happen that a significant number of its educators will come and settle in America. As they carry their energy with them, they are at freedom to cause converts in the event that they to can, and to construct a gathering and to follow the directs of their still, small voices; for neither the legislature nor some other force meddles. In the event that they are quiet subjects, and are enterprising, what is it to their neighbors how and in what way they think fit to deliver their supplications to the Supreme Being? Be that as it may, if the sectaries are not settled near one another, on the off chance that they are blended in with different divisions, their energy will cool for need of fuel, and will be stifled in a brief period. At that point the Americans become as to religion, what they are as to nation, unified to all. In them the name of Englishman, Frenchman, and European is lost, and in like way, the severe methods of Christianity as rehearsed in Europe are lost too. This impact will expand itself still farther henceforth, and however this may appear to you as a weird thought, yet it is an extremely evident one. I will be capable maybe from now on to account for myself better; in the in the interim, let the accompanying model fill in as my first justification†. Paraphrase: In an endeavor to clarify you how Europeans became Americans, it is additionally noticeable that how the diverse Christian groups built up, wear out and afterward at long last they lowered into one another. At the point when a noteworthy number of individuals, having a place with various gatherings occupy touching to one another, they live and adore in the way that fulfills their own strict contemplations. On the off chance that another group of individuals draws back in Europe, at that point it is a likelihood that numerous its teachers come and live in America. With them, they bring new get-up-and-go. They are allowed to follow their own standards on the grounds that neither the organization nor any other person will disrupt the general flow. In the event that these individuals are productive and peaceful, nobody thinks about their method of love. Then again, in the event that these two unique gatherings are intermixed and combined, at that point their pizzazz and energy will wear out and will be smothered with the progression of time. At that point the unanimity emerges and they become united to each part of life; in religion just as to their nation. This effect will grow itself still past in future, and however this may appear to you as an unconventional proposal, yet it is an exceptionally obvious one. Synopsis: In the section, the author shows how in America, the strict lack of concern gets normal. Like when two distinctive strict gatherings happen to settle contiguous one another, they raise there sanctuaries immediately and start their own profound love. They are allowed to follow their own persona on the grounds that nobody meddle them. In the event that they live calmly, and are gainful, no one tries to think in what way they address their supplications to the Supreme Being. Be that as it may, if two distinct groups stir up with one another, their profound qualities converge with one another. Thus, they lose their own differentiation and amalgamate together in religion similarly as they show harmony for their nation. The essayist is of the view that this effect will in any case broaden itself later on. This may seem odd however it is valid. Examination: In the entry described over, the essayist has demonstrated his/her huge fortune of exploration and jargon. The entry exhibits the consistent methodology of the author. In the entry, the author has placed in the image of how the Englishmen of Europe are changed into Americans. Here the essayist has basically stressed on the strict combination of the individuals having a place with various gatherings. Yet, the essayist has overlooked the issue of good brutality created by this merger and its effect in the entry. Inequalities on HIlltown Main Street The WritePass Journal

Imbalances on HIlltown Main Street References Imbalances on HIlltown Main Street Drawing on what you have found out about City Road, diagram a portion of the imbalances on a road that you know. Hilltown’s Main Street is regular of an unassuming community, and is the place a large portion of the towns organizations are situated.â Consisting of six bars, three beauticians, and three take-aways with just two markets and a little butchers shop, it is maybe a reflection on how contemporary society’s utilization has formed this street.â Some of the key issues I wish to examine are the structure of the road, traffic stream, stopping, handicap access and some neighborhood organizations. The primary piece of the road is worked around the joining of three T-intersections, in the middle is a huge leaving zone called ‘The Square’.â With traffic coming in five ways the main methods for traffic control are two islands to attempt to make going across the street easier.â Cars utilizing the road as only a through-street by and large win the opposition for utilization of room, as they have need, with little to stop them.â This is in contrast with the drivers attempting to join the principle stream of traffic from the three streets that structure the T-Junctions, who miss out with long pauses, similar to the people on foot attempting to cross. It is on this finish of the road that the greater increasingly fruitful organizations are arranged and the principle reason is by all accounts the straightforward entry because of ample stopping and great footpaths.â The other portion of the road is on a precarious slope brimming with waste shunts, lopsided asphalts and high kerbs into each passageway. This implies get to is extremely confined for those with youngsters in prams or those with constrained mobility.â Those who can get to it effectively are inhabitants of close by houses and the capable pedestrians.â Due to the restricted stopping on this half of the road, drivers think that its hard to get to these businesses.â Therefore they are littler and miss out in light of the fact that they have a restricted buyer base. The proportion of premises offering trivial items contrasted with fundamental is practically 3:1.â â This is an impression of Zygmunt Bauman’s (1988), hypothesis of the allured and the repressed.â The beauticians, for instance, attract customers consistently. Some decide to return week by week so as to attempt and successfully expend an assistance which permits them to keep up a picture they regard socially acceptable.â Bauman would allude to these as the seduced.â Those with constrained methods notwithstanding, can't take an interest in this type of utilization †the old on restricted benefits, the jobless and the more youthful ages for example.â These are viewed as the subdued. Bars are not another product to the Main Street, some dating as far back as the eighteenth century, they are anyway kept up by the present shopper demand.â Most of them have modernized, in especially Minnie’s where the 20 something’s like to socialise.â It is a result of this notoriety that a great deal of the more established ages feel excluded.â The noisy music and pool tables advance more to the youthful utilized individuals who seek to a solid personality and social acknowledgment inside the bar.â Lowry’s anyway is referred to locally as the working man’s bar, a bar which, before the smoking boycott, possessed an aroma like stogie smoke, and even had a ‘men’s room’ where the men would assemble and talk undisturbed around an open fire.â Like the Men’s Municipal Club on City Road Cardiff (Visual Material), maybe Lowry’s clings to an envisioned past leaving the men with an awesome feeling of having a place howev er which implies that ladies, youngsters and new individuals frequently consider it to be a that is very selective to its perceived clientele.â The Hotel caters for the moderately aged customers, again in light of reputation.â Here adolescents and youngsters feel this isn't the picture they wish to be related with. Regardless of what occurs in Main Street; from exploring the intersections, to associating, to shoppers having their hair done there are considerations and exclusions.â Whether one has an enormous overflow salary or lesser methods, the champs and washouts in utilization are not generally self-evident, yet there are consistently divisions and imbalances to be seen. While the traffic disparities can't be settled without extraordinary cost (for example traffic lights), individuals have figured out how to function around this.â Inequalities are not contrary when the road is seen as a whole.â When individuals feel rejected from one foundation they are commonly remembered for another for example Lowry’s, Minnie’s and the inn all have a particular and distinctive custom.â However the issue of handicap access to the lower half of Main Street may not be settled whenever soon.â It is a direct result of circumstances like this that there will consistently be a rate that are quelled and rejected from our general public. The Author Perspective on the Process COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY - SIPA Admissions Blog

The Author Perspective on the Process COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY - SIPA Admissions Blog A good number of those reading this blog might have met me, but chances are the majority of you have not.   I thought I would take an entry to introduce myself and provide a bit of my perspective on the admissions process. My name is Matt Clemons and I am the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid.   My Mom is really the only one who calls me Matthew but I respond to either name.   I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and in college I majored in history and minored in political science.   In addition to living in New York City I have lived in Pusan, South Korea and Santa Clara, California.   What would I be doing if I was not typing this?   I would likely be riding my bike.   I am an avid cyclist and ride my bike to and from work every day (except in mammoth snow storms).   I absolutely love my job and higher education in general. Why should you heed the advice I put on the blog other than the fact that I work at SIPA?   Well, I have been working in higher education since George H.W. Bush was in office, but perhaps of more relevance to you is the fact that I obtained a professional graduate degree and borrowed money and received free money to do so.     So the advice I give is based not only on my work experience, but on my personal experience as a student.   Also of note is that I enrolled in my graduate program at age 28, very close to the average age of a new SIPA student. I will not bore you with other details about me, but I will share a few quick personal stories that are always on my mind this time of year.   This is a tough time of year for me because not all admission decisions can be favorable.   It is tough to deny applicants that really have their heart set on something.   That is where my stories come in . . . Many, many years ago when I was a senior in college (and the walk to classes was uphill both ways) I knew that I wanted to get out of the U.S. for a while after graduating.   I had my heart set on the Peace Corps and enthusiastically submitted my application.   A few months later I got a letter in the mail telling me a story many people hear this time of year: it was a very qualified and deep pool and I did not make the cut.   It was very hard news for me to hear at the time, but looking back, it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I still wanted to go overseas so I applied for English teaching jobs in several countries and ended up taking a job in Pusan, South Korea.   I not only had a wonderful time in Korea, I met my wife while teaching.   Looking back, I could not be more thankful that the Peace Corps letter was not the one I had hope for; even though at the time I received it I was dismayed. When I think about it a bit more, some of my greatest “failures” have turned into success stories.   I played soccer most of my young life but did not make the team in high school.   I was devastated but a friend recruited me to run cross country and I ended up getting a distance running scholarship in college.   Shortly before moving to New York I had applied for what I thought was the perfect job for me on the west coast.   The school took a pass on me and a short time later the door opened for me to move to New York which was the best thing that has happened for me professionally. I share these stories because it is not easy for me to sign off on deny letters and I always hope that people realize that life is full twists and turns.   We often grapple to understand why things do not always turn out the way we want them to, only later to realize that difficult news opened doors we were later happy to walk through.   Many of you will receive offers of admission and you will come to SIPA and do wonderful things.   I have no doubt that those who do not come to SIPA will also go on to do wonderful things to help make the world a better place. We have yet to start sending decisions but stay tuned for updates.

Regurgitation: The Life Story of an Anoretic-Bulimic In Wasted: A Memoir of Anorexia and Bulimia (1999), Marya Hombachers testimonial delves into the dark underbelly of her illness; her battle is regurgitated within the text with the same fervor as the disease besieging her body and mind. Marya, divulges her fourteen year long struggle with Anorexia and Bulimia with often macabre honesty. Her story is terrifyingly painful and provides a glimpse into the devastating progression of her illness. Marya was a mesomorph, not fat, but not skinny, not thin, successful, wealthy, controlled, or disciplined (p. 15). Her experience of growing up in the theater had taught her that nothing was as it seems, and she viewed her body as a costume that could be changed. By the time Marya was eleven she met the diagnostic requirements for severe, uncontrollable bulimia nervosa (p. 51). Marya used bulimia as a way to gain

Juvenile Crimes Face Harsh Punishments - 899 Words

There are serious flaws with the way the US judicial system prosecutes juveniles. Although there is a juvenile court system in place to try youth offenders, the way it is being implemented is different between each state. In addition, some states even go further and try youth offenders, depending on the crime they committed, in an adult criminal court. In recent years, juvenile crimes face harsh punishments in the US, and the number of juvenile offenders sent to youth courts is decreasing, based on the data (â€Å"The Sentencing Project – Juvenile Justice,† 2015). This decline of cases being sent to the juvenile courts indicates that more cases of youth crime are being transferred to adult courts. Trying a child as an adult contradicts to UN’s rights of the child as listed on FACT SHEET: A summary of the rights under the Convention on the Rights of the Child (p.1 – 4), which shows that by transferring a child to an adult correction facility, we are denying that child of his/her rights. A child has a limited understanding of how the world functions. It is difficult for a child to distinguish right from wrong. Therefore, it would be common sense to try a child, under the age of 18, differently than an adult, with some exceptions being made to frequent offenders and very serious crimes. But that is not the way it is being implemented in the US. There are three ways a youth offender can be transferred from a juvenile court to an adult court in the US. Brink (2004) lists theShow MoreRelatedJuvenile Courts Essay891 Words   |  4 PagesSerious crimes such as murder, burglary and rape have raised questions as to whether the young offenders should face severe punitive treatment or the normal punitive measures in juvenile courts. Multinationals Advantages and Disadvantages Free Essays

Multinational business relies on its imports and exports around the world. Factories may be set up in different areas of the world and have their business based on the import and export of raw materials, which is what is done by most of them. Developing countries can gain more from multinationals since they help increase labor and its opportunities, which then means that the average income of a person will increase allowing them to spend more and lead a better life-style, which helps the tax bases to increase due to people wanting to spend more, often on things they could not afford earlier, and if the tax base increase, the government will be able to supply more for their people and give better health support, better education and help the country to develop more. However, multinationals do not always have a good impact on the global business environment, especially in developed countries, as outsourcing to developing countries is happening which causes for jobs to be lost in developed countries and thus, making the average income lower. Also, small businesses do not benefit from this as they are dominated by the multinationals and their brand names. Their impact on our environment is not good, as they produce a lot of waste products, which are not always recycled or used properly, especially in smaller, less developed countries as the laws and restrictions are not always applied. Sister Carrie Coming Of Age Essay Example For Students

Sister Carrie Coming Of Age Essay I think it is very difficult to define the exact character of Dreisers Sister Carrie, and his original intention. I would say, as many eyes, so many opinions, so no wonder there are different approaches and interpretations towards the novel which is influenced not just by the readers reading or personal experience, but also by their particular philosophy of life as well as knowledge about the historical background. Sister Carrie can be read as a novel of desire, seduction, or the critique of capitalism and consumerism. Its definitely not the plot or characters which are dominant elements of it. The taste and the literary value of Dreisers novel is shaped and created by its setting and the authors tone. Chicago and New York have almost as organic and important role in the novel as the characters. They do not just form the simple environment for the novel, but they influence its character and a very strong impression. Chicagos character is kind of more positive, it is a city of promise, luck, rise (Carrie). We can say that in Chicago, Hurtswood means something. New York s character is different. Its a city of lies, fall, impersonal isolation of walled city where surviving is much more difficult than in Chicago. In New York, Hurstwood means nothing. The setting creates different expectations to people. During the reading of Sister Carrie, I was interested in searching and revealing the different kinds of desire. Generally we can say that Dreiser deals with the desire of wealth, social status, material things which are represented by money. Within this generalization, we can find and identify many other faces and forms of lust and longing. Carrie, as an ambitious and strong woman embodies the social values of the consumer culture. All she longs for is a material wealth, which represents power. She can be seen as a symbol of money. But Carrie lives in a world of prices. Her labor costs $4.50; board $4 a week; car fare $.60; cheap lunch $. 10; etc. She imitates everything perfectly and thats why she is becoming what people want her to become. Her desires come from other peoples desires. It is exactly Drouet, who introduces her to the world of wealth, to materialism. He gives her money, flat even name when she enters the world of theater. She plays her role according to Drouets desires once acts as his mistress or wife. She plays a kind of role for him and by imitating whatever the drummer desires in women, she becomes merely a reflection of masculine desire. It seems to me that she is never allowed to express any desire of her own except for her desire for consumption (admiring and buying clothes). I think in her relationship with other people, she feels bigger pleasure fro being desired than for feeling desire of her own. The question is wheter Dreisers attitude towards women is negative or positive? Are his women just objects or active characters? Or does Dreiser reinforce the conventional belief that the essence of a woman is just a performance of a role? I think we can also talk about a kind of prostitution as for the female characters, namely Carrie and Julia. Carrie sells herself for $20, and she is paid far more for her body than she is for her labor. Julia also demands money which makes her marriage also as a form of prostitution. Is sex in this world, consumption society, a womans most marketable product? Do these women have or even can they have their own faces? Hurstwoods desire is to possess, to possess a quiet and peaceful life with exciting episodes. He views marriage as a contract that gives him a right to control both women without questions. He thinks he has the absolute power to make decisions. Does Dreiser want to stress that power is a natural and singular masculine right? Dreisers attitude towards his characters is pretty confusing. .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222 , .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222 .postImageUrl , .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222 , .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222:hover , .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222:visited , .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222:active { border:0!important; } .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222:active , .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222 .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub1cf26ca35858beccec699ca5341d222:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Types Of Sports Related Concussion Essay He tries to manipulate his readers and throughout the novel, he makes comments judgements on the characters and their actions. Definitely, he feels more sympathy towards his male characters. His opinion on women is not pleasant, he is putting them to a position of creatures who are naturally imitative, who love performance, clothing, so not ones who could follow their own decisions. The authors voice makes the tone of the novel which is very important and dominant in Dreisers Sister Carrie. This is also a typical trait of naturalism, where the author is taking back his control over the characters and their actions. I think, Sister Carrie represents a naturalistic type of novel. The characters and their actions are determined, and they do not have much free will. Many actions take place by accident, by chance which is not of course spiritual fate but still forms different kinds of determinism. Carries fate is determined by her gender, by her environment cities where she lives and people, who she is surrounded by. Although Carrie does not leave a very sweet taste in the readers mouth, I like her. I am not saying that her reactions would represent a woman with high moral qualities, but as for the society, it was not her choice. I think, it was the only way to live and survive. I like Dreisers images of seasons, weather, theater, newspaper. I like his comments, observations, and language. It was really a very enjoyable and exciting reading.

Strengths: Unique opportunity Not a lot of competition Free to kids School support Weaknesses: Cliental is not traditionally familiar with product We currently cannot accommodate all who apply Starts up costs are high Large staffing needs Opportunities and Threats: The average child who grows up in a large urban area stays there for most of their life. We feel that this program will be successful because it opens up a city child to a whole new world. This program will start in NYC. We would eventually like for it to spread to all the major urban areas of the United States. We will get funding for this program by soliciting major corporations and foundations. One of the major threats that we perceive is that we cannot raise enough money trough these sponsors. History: Youth Outdoor Adventures is a new, not for profit company. Consumer Analysis: Geographic United States, Urban area, NYC Demographic 5th graders, no regard to gender, race, religion or nationality Psychographics Underprivileged youth, no regard to lifestyle or personality Behavioral Children, or participants would be allowed to go on one trip. Trips will be run weekly. All equipment and other necessities other then clothing will be provide. The participants need only to sign up. Competitive Analysis: There are no other firms that are providing services like ours for free to the participants. We anticipate little competition as far as similar services are concerned. We will be competing for the participants' time, the average youth has many interests, and we want him or her to come with us. We would like to establish relationships with schools and other social services that work with children. Together we can promote each other's services. Environmental challenges: The environment that affects us most is the social cultural environment. Many inner city children not have a high comfort level in outdoor adventure situations. To ease this cultural difference we would recruit and train employees from the same urban background. The economic environment may also have an effect. If there is a recession we can expect less donations from sponsors, even though the same needs will exist. Marketing Objectives: As a non-profit, are main goal is to serve the children. We hope that after the start up of the company we can steadily increase the number of children served each year. We hope to establish ourselves as the leader in outdoor education to the underprivileged. By becoming a well-respected name we will ensure sponsorships. Strategy: Product: Youth Outdoor Adventures will provide outdoor trips such as skiing, kayaking, rock climbing, and backpacking. The trips will be offered to 5th graders in the NYC area. All equipment except for personnel clothing will be provided. Food is also included. The children will be picked up from a central location. The company provides all transportation from there. The children will have to apply for the program. Pricing: The service is free to the children. None monetary prices include giving up one weekend that could be used for studying or other activities. Distribution/Place: The children can sigh up for the service through our web site and promotional materials. Once the children sign up for the service we will mail them all the information they need. As stated above, all the participants will meet at a central location and our staff will bring them to the activity. Because our business is a service we do not need a distribution center. Promotional strategy: We intended to form partnerships with the NYC school district. Through this partnership we will distribute materials to principals and teachers. Staff members will be available to speak to PTA groups, principles, students and other stakeholders. We will also establish a reputation by linking ourselves with our sponsors.

Elementary School Science Fair Projects

Elementary School Science Fair Projects It can be a challenge to come up with an elementary school science fair project idea thats fun and challenging. Even at the grade-school level, there will be fierce competition to come up with the winning idea- but winning first prize should not be the focus of your childs project. Learning and making the project fun and encouraging a genuine interest in science should be your top priority. Elementary School Science Fair Project Basics Elementary school projects arent supposed to be rocket science (though of course, they can be). Keep in mind, judges will disqualify projects if they suspect parents did too much or all of the work. Part of science is making a reproducible procedure. Resist the temptation to let your child make a display or do a demonstration. Instead, gear the project toward answering a question or solving a problem. Start by finding a video an online tutorial for a project that appeals to your child and then let him or her try to reproduce it. Make sure to follow all directions and safety precautions outlined in the experiment to the letter. Documentation is also essential to the success of your childs project. Keeping careful notes and taking pictures as the project progresses is a great way to document data. These notes should include how well his or her results match those of the original project. How Much Time Should Be Devoted to the Project? Time is a factor that has to be considered for all science projects. Even though the actual number of hours spent to complete any given project may be the same, some science fair projects can be done over the space of a weekend, while others that involve recording data over a period of time (say, 10 minutes per day over the course of a few weeks). Finding out if theres going to be a year-end science fair that your child will be expected to participate in will allow you to plan accordingly. Weekend Projects The following projects can be accomplished fairly quickly. Make sure your child sets a specific goal to be achieved or question they will be attempting to answer. Gather the specific items needed to complete the project in advance. Have your child document the steps in the experiment as they go along and also record his or her conclusion at the end. Try making colored bubbles. Can you color them with food coloring? If so, what differences do you notice between colored bubbles and regular bubbles? Can you predict what things will glow under a black light? Will chilling an onion before cutting it keep you from crying? What ratio of vinegar to baking soda produces the best chemical volcano eruption? Are night insects attracted to lamps because of heat or light? Can you make Jell-O using fresh pineapples instead of canned pineapples?Do white candles burn at a different rate than colored candles?Compare using saltwater (a saturated solution of sodium chloride) and freshwater to dissolve Epsom salts. Are all potato chips equally greasy (you can crush them to get uniform samples and look at the diameter of a grease spot on brown paper)? Is greasiness different if different oils are used (e.g., peanut versus soybean)? Can you use a household water filter to remove flavor or color from other liquids?Does the power of a microwave affect how well it makes popcorn? If you use invisible ink, does a message appear equally well on all types of paper? Does it matter what type of invisible ink you use?Do all brands of diapers absorb the same amount of liquid? Does it matter what the liquid is (water as opposed to juice or milk)?Do different brands of batteries (same size, new) last equally long? Does changing the device in which the batteries are used (e.g., running a flashlight as opposed to running a digital camera) change the results? Is the nutritional content of different brands of a vegetable (e.g., canned peas) the same? Compare labels. Are permanent markers really permanent? What solven ts (e.g., water, alcohol, vinegar, detergent solution) will remove the ink? Do different brands/types of markers produce the same results? Is laundry detergent as effective if you use less than the recommended amount? Are the two values the same? If not, is there a relationship between them?Do clear flavored drinks and colored flavored drinks (same flavor) taste the same? Does it matter if you can see the color? What percent of an orange is water? Get an approximate mass percent by weighing an orange, liquefying it in a blender, and measuring the strained liquid. (Note: other liquids, such as oils, will be present in trace amounts.) Alternatively, you could bake the weighed orange until it is dried and weigh it again.Does the temperature of a soda affect how much it sprays? You can refrigerate a soda, warm one in a hot water bath, shake them up, measure how much liquid is sprayed out. How do you explain the results?Do all brands of soda spray the sam e amount when you shake them up? Does it matter if its diet or regular soda? Do all brands of paper towels pick up the same amount of liquid? Compare single sheet of different brands. Be sure to use a teaspoon to measure incremental additions of liquid and record the number accurately. Continue to add liquid until the sheet until it is saturated, let any excess liquid drip off, and then squeeze the liquid from the wet paper towel into a measuring cup. Week-Long Projects These projects may take more than a few days to complete, as the processes they involve dont always happen overnight. If one of these projects interests your child, make sure he or she will have enough time to see it through to its conclusion, and again, make sure they document the steps they take along the way. What type of plastic wrap best prevents evaporation? What plastic wrap best prevents oxidation?Figure out how much of a weeks worth of your familys trash could be recycled. Compare the recyclables against the total amount of trash to determine what percentage is thrown away what could be re-used.Does light affect the rate at which foods spoil?Do the same types of mold grow on all types of bread? How does temperature affect the growth of Borax crystals? Crystals can be grown at room temperature, in the refrigerator, or in an ice bath. Growing crystals takes from two to five days. Since boiling water is required to melt the Borax, make sure to supervise your child. What conditions affect the ripening of fruit? Look at ethylene and enclosing a fruit in a sealed bag, temperature, light, or nearness to other pieces or fruit. Plant Germination and Growth (Long-Term Projects) Projects that involve growing plants over a period of time to see how different factors affect growth rate and germination are very popular with kids but they do take time and careful tending. You want your child to be excited by science. If it seems like a chore, they may lose interest. Younger children or those with short attention spans may be better off with a project from which they can see the results more quickly. If your child is good at keeping up with commitments and has the patience to watch things unfold, these projects are excellent examples from which they can learn and draw their scientific conclusions. How do different factors affect seed germination? Factors that you could test include the intensity, duration, or type of light, the temperature, the amount of water, the presence/absence of certain chemicals, or the presence/absence of soil. You can look at the percentage of seeds that germinate or the rate at which seeds germinate. Is a seed affected by its size? Do different size seeds have different germination rates or percentages? Does seed size affect the growth rate or final size of a plant? How does cold storage affect the germination of seeds? Factors you can control include the type of seeds, length of storage, the temperature of storage, light, and humidity.Does the presence of detergent in water affect plant growth? What is the effect of a chemical on a plant? You can look at natural pollutants (e.g., motor oil, runoff from a busy street) or unusual substances (e.g., orange juice, baking soda). Factors that you can measure include rate of plant growth, leaf size, life/death of the plant, the color of the  plant, and its ability to flower/bear fruit. Does magnetism affect the growth of plants? Science Fair Projects Beyond Grade School If your child loves science and is nearing grade school graduation and you want to keep their enthusiasm engaged, you can plan ahead by getting familiar with these science project ideas geared toward more advanced levels of education. Pacific Norh West History Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Pacific Norh West History - Essay Example After the USA purchased Louisiana they were interested in expanding to the West Coast, but as there was uncertainty about what exactly they would be buying, President Thomas Jefferson decided to fund and expedition. The president had first heard about plans of an expedition to explore the Pacific North West whilst he was in France, but he had not believed it possible and because of bad weather, the expedition was called off. Captain Meriwether Lewis was chosen to lead the expedition and he in turn chose William Clark as his partner. The purpose of the expedition was to study the Indian tribes, botany, geology and the types of wildlife that existed in the Western Region as well as see what kind of interference the Canadian, French and British hunters, who were already established in the area, would hold for them. The Lewis and Clark expedition left from Pittsburg with eleven men; seven of which were soldiers and one a pilot. All of the men had volunteered to go with Lewis and Clark on their expedition and so they set out to the Pacific Ocean. On May 14, 1804 the Lewis and Clark expedition set off up to the Missouri River and on July 4, 1804 Lewis and Clark named a river located near the city of Atchinson Independence Creek and this day is now known in America as Independence day. It was on October 24, 1804 that the Lewis and Clark expedition reached its first goal where they spent the winter at the Mandan-Hidatsa villages which is now known as North Dakota. American Indian Villages were located at this location and on the Northern Plains they were the main trading centers. The Indian tribes allowed for the explorers to build a small fort, which they named Fort Mandan and they lived there for five months through a terribly cold winter. This allowed for Lewis and Clark to explore the area and learn about the wildlife and geography form their

Business plan and marketing strategy for Nike

Business plan and marketing strategy for Nike The real value of creating a business plan is not in having the finished product in hand; rather, the value lies in the process of researching and thinking about your business in a systematic way. Sustain nikes financially viable business model of providing financial services to the poor and mainstream it with other financial institutions to ensure scalability Objectives or goals The ends toward which activity is aimed. In this part we know that nikes abjective is to achieve something in a specific or selected time just say for example nike planning is to sold women wear in 3 month so the employees of nike must have to sell these product within the time. Product and services Nikes product and services are too much and very cheaper because the make a strategy that the sell their product to all customer and get satisfication. For example in shoes product we see that all kind of shoes in nike company are very comfortable and very cheaper.nike almost sell their product in all over the world.for example in Pakistan every body in Pakistan like nike product and they almost use these products.but when we talk about nikes fitness In Pakistan mostly people are unaware about this because when women use nikes fitness items it is totally against islam and we know that Pakistan is a conservative country and people that already lived in Pakistan would,n like this.but on the other side we look that if we sell our product like shoes garments bags we see that these product we can easily sell. Nikes technology When we talk about nike technology we see that this is a multinational company and they almost use good raw and other material for their products.because when the use good material is initial they can get more profit because customer like their product. Market analysis summary Nike is the most successful producers of sports feetwear with rebook aswell as with the manufactures of causal footwear. However now company faces a number of challenges that they does not exist few years ago.now in market thay face a number of company that sell all these product that nike already sell It and these are less cheaper if we compare to all nikes product so now nike are going to change their strategy to face this challenges. Market Needs Now nike change their strategy now the see all the environment that now what market needs in these days for example in summer days they introduce their new product in rainy days they introduce their waterproof jackets. Market Trends Nikes need to use the new strategy just says fo example what is trend now a days in Pakistan we see that their we sell the product that match with the socity and we cant use other products because Pakistan is a conservative country. Main Competitors In Pakistan we see that there are a number of companies that sell all the products that nike also sell. But nike face a number of chelenges because other company sell all these products with the same rate that nike also.so nike should have to change their strategy.they should have to introduce less cheaper product that anybody can purchase easily. Marketing Plan Market research: Why? You spend so much time on marketing-related matters customers, competitors, pricing, promotion, and advertising that it is natural to assume that you have little to learn. However, every small business can benefit from doing market research to make sure it is on track. Use the business planning process as your opportunity to uncover data and to question your marketing efforts. It will be time well spent. Customers Identify your customers, their characteristics, and their geographic locations; that is, demographics. The description will be completely different depending on whether you sell to other businesses or directly to consumers. If you sell a consumer product, but sell it through a channel of distributors, wholesalers, and retailers, you must carefully analyze both the end user and the intermediary businesses to which you sell. You may have more than one customer group. Identify the most important groups. Then, for each consumer group, construct a demographic profile: Age Gender Location Income level Social class/occupation Education Other For business customers, the demographic factors might be: Industry (or portion of an industry) Location Size of firm Quality/technology/price preferences Marketing Strategy The first one is that you really dont need a fancy logo or catch phrase to get your fitness marketing plan to work well for you. The simple truth is that nobody really cares what your logo looks like, nor do they stop and consider using your services simply because you have a nice-looking logo or a really great catch phrase. They stop because youre showing them real, tangible results. Youre in the fitness industry, and thats what people want. They only care about results. Can you actually prove and show them results? How about a before/after photo of a previous client? Make sure theyre ok with you using their photo and/or name!. Location The city of lahore, which is popular as heart of Pakistan , is an important tourist centre in Pakistan . The city houses one of the seven wonders of world and is an established commercial centre. Besides other institutions the place has a good number of basic health facilities that provide services to the residents and tourists. Many healthcare centres operate in the city. The infrastructure include several government hospitals, private nursing homes, allopathic hospitals and dispensaries and primary health care centres. Including the medical college there are seven government hospitals. Some 15 nursing homes provide the services and facilities in the city. Primary Health Care Centers are primarily meant for rural areas and all the 56 centers are located in the rural areas. Out of a total of 45 allopathic centres 39 are in the suburbs. One special fact, as revealed by a study conducted in Lahore , there are many Ayurvedic practitioners in Agra whose average age is about 70 years. The prime hospitals and nursing homes in Lahore include District Hospital, sheikh zaid Hospital ,Cantonment Hospital, Centre Jalma Institute of Leprosy Tajganj, T.B. Hospital Near, Mental Hospital Billochpura, Ashoka Hospital , Amit Jaggi Memorial Hospital , Medical Institute, Sri Ram Hospital. Distribution channel The fitness equipment industry in Pakistan is witnessing significant growth as pakistanis increasingly become health and fitness conscious. The market is estimated to be worth INR 12.5 bn in 2008 and is expected to reach INR 63.3 bn by 2012. The end-user segments include individuals using fitness equipments at home and institutions like health clubs, corporate houses. The report provides a brief overview of the fitness equipment industry including market size, growth, types of equipments and key segments. An analysis of drivers explain growth factors such as increasing health and fitness consciousness amongst pakistan growing demand from corporate houses, entry of foreign fitness chains/clubs, reduction in prices and import duties and real estate boom. The key challenges identified include lack of RD facilities in the country, lack of consumer confidence in Indian equipments, lack of good fitness trainers and lack of space in residential complexes. The key trends identified include health chains entering equipment retailing market, introduction of innovative products and emergence of new distribution channels Operational Plan One of the biggest mistakes that people tend to make is to start a fitness program without planning how it will realistically fit into their everyday lives. As a personal trainer in a club with thousands of members, I have seen many new and eager faces begin programs, ready to commit to 7 days a week the minute they buy their membership. I feel very happy that they are taking such a big step forward but at the same time I cant help but wonder who will manage to make this significant lifestyle change and actually be there in six months. The statistics are not in favor of these new members. Only about 20 percent will actually be able maintain this commitment. . Production How and where do you produce your products or services? Explain your methods of: Production techniques and costs Quality control Customer service Inventory control Product development Legal Environment Describe the following: Licensing and bonding requirements Permits Health, workplace, or environmental regulations Special regulations covering your industry or profession Zoning or building code requirements Insurance coverage Trademarks, copyrights, or patents (pending, existing, or purchased) Personnel Number of employees Type of labor (skilled, unskilled, professional) Where do you find new employees? Quality of existing staff Pay structure Training methods and requirements New hiring in the coming year? Who does which tasks? Are schedules and procedures in place? Financial Plan The financial plan consists of a 12-month profit and loss projection, a four-year profit and loss projection (optional), a cash-flow projection, a projected balance sheet, and a breakeven calculation. Together, these spreadsheets constitute a reasonable estimate of your companys financial future. More important, however, the process of thinking through the financial plan will improve your insight into the inner financial workings of your company. GENRAL LOAN The GL focuses on building and sustaining economic opportunities of poor households and thus achieving nikes over-arching goal of alleviating poverty. The GL is based on group collateral where a group of 25 women jointly insure each other against default. In light of nikes strong commitment to customer care, center members have to wait only 7 days after their registration to get the first loan, while repeat clients can obtain a loan within 24 hours. The loans are advanced to female members of the household and it is the mutual decision of the household to decide on the economic activity that they will invest in. BUISNESS LOAN Clients requiring loans below Rs 500,000 cannot obtain access to formal financial sources, since such amounts are still too small for commercial banks. A quick estimate can show that the potential market for small enterprises is about 6 million with a negligible outreach to such entrepreneurs by the banking and the microfinance sector as a whole. ABC targets fast moving small entrepreneurs through the BSL, the entire methodology of which is based on a credit scoring model. The BSL is advanced to clients with a minimum of 2 years running experience of their businesses and has no collateral requirements. Generally the loan has a minimum processing time of less than 5 days. Strengths and weaknesses are initial and Kotler (1988) says these must cover the four areas of marketing, financial, manufacturing and organizational. Opportunities and threats look at the main environmental issues such as the economic situation, social changes such as the population getting older and technological developments including the internet. A SWOT analysis example for a cosmetics manufacturer might include: Strengths Strong and have a good market experience High brand recognition Better customer dealing Weaknesses Prices perceived to be too high Costs spiralling out of control due to increases from raw material suppliers Inconsistent brand identity Opportunities Growth of the internet leading to an increase in the number of consumers willing to buy online New emerging teen market Threats New affordable luxury entrants to the market threatening to take share from premium brands Major competitor planning to integrate vertically and sell direct to the consumer Rise in popularity of nail spas leading to decline in demand for nail products Management and Organization A project must be included in the general objectives of the business, because it generally mobilizes personnel for a long period of time. This is why it is necessary for an organization to determine its intentions in the medium term (one to three years) before even starting projects. Thus, the management organizational chart serves to provide prospective strategic orientation in order to provide a rough idea of the interrelation of the principal objectives over time. Thus, it makes it possible to define priorities in terms of achievement of objectives and to provide visibility to the organizations ambitions. The management organizational chart, in the case of large structures, may be useful in the form of a Strategic Organizational Chart (sometimes General Organizational Chart), combining several different management organizational charts. The management organizational chart is created by a Management Committee (or Strategic Committee), combining the repesentatives of the organizationss general management. The Management Committee therefore represents the general management of the company for all projects. However, the inclusion of a project in the management organizational chart does not guarantee that the related work will be done. In fact, the term project includes intention, which implies feasibility, which is one of the intermediate stages between the creation of the management organizational chart and the start of the project

Nothing is free. Essay -- essays research papers

I definitely think the best things in life are not free. There are so many examples I can name. For one, every thing you want in life you have to work hard to earn it. Nothing is given to you for free. Everything in life costs you or someone else money, time, or effort. This includes all the important things in life like air, freedom, life, living, love, children, marriage, jobs, and friendships. However, if we consider the meaning of free, "without cost of any kind to anyone at any time--past, present or future", it would be hard to find anything that is free. Every aspect of life carries some sort of commitment. Freedom is not free. In order for this great country of ours to possess freedom that it offers, countless numbers of men and women have paid a high price to make it so. In order for us to go about freely in this great country, we have to follow certain guidelines or obedience of laws for the general welfare. If we insist on not doing so, eventually, our freedom will be lost and then placed under guarded control. Life is not free. One has to commit to life. Even though a child is brought into this world through no decision of his or her own, it costs someone to bring that child into this life, and it will further cost for life to be maintained for that child. In addition, in order to live, one has to commit to the idea of living, at whatever standards they choose or their circumstances dictate. Living is not free. Life consists of many elements and th...

Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act Essay

The News Article is about the new Health Law; Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which was signed into law in March 2010. Also included in the Act are individual mandate requirements, expansion of public programs, health insurance exchanges, changes to private insurance, employer requirements and cost and coverage estimates. Unfortunately some citizens of the United States are disapproving of this Act; Obama has offered to make changes to the Act if warranted. Currently Administration is Attempting to quantify exactly how much individuals and businesses might save once the law is phased in starting in 2014. Premiums are expected to be lower than they otherwise would be without the law. For example, it says, middle-income families could save as much as $2,300 by purchasing coverage through the new health insurance exchanges; small businesses could save as much as $350 per family policy; and even large businesses will save, it says, because healthier people will have insurance. A statement from the American’s Health Insurance Plan gives the downfall of the Act, â€Å"The new law will expand coverage to millions of Americans, but fails to address the health care cost crisis.† Opinion: In my opinion of the Act I’m not really sure which side I chose to be on. The Act could save many people and businesses a lot of money. With the economy in the state it is every dime people could save would help. However the law does nothing for the price of medicine and other medical needs. Also with Obama offering to make changes to fit peoples wants and needs should help a lot with winning of the Critics.

Discussing Christopher Wren s Cathedral - 1842 Words

Diala Tadros MRS. Doyle HUM 102-301 10/15/16 Research paper St. Paul Cathedral Introduction: This semester my paper will be discussing Christopher Wren’s building â€Å"St. Paul’s Cathedral†, and why St. Paul’s Cathedral is considered to be the most important and famous masterpiece of England’s architecture? The St. Paul Cathedral of Sir Christopher Wren was chosen because it is famously interpreted in the baroque style in England, and dominated English architecture. St. Paul’s cathedral is one of the most famous important building because it was built on an earlier church that was severely damaged in the Great Fire of London.† It is considered as one of the best symbol of English baroque architecture†. It was rebuilt and designed by Christopher Wren, who also rebuilt over fifty churches that were damaged in Great Fire of London. It is one of the tallest buildings of London. St. Paul’s is the most brilliant building that I’ve heard that it was done by a acclaimed artist in London after it was d estroyed, and rebuild again.
